Stanmore Bay School Fun Family Day Gala

Come and have a Fun Family Day” at the Stanmore Bay School Gala
 Sunday the 24th November 10am-2pm.

Stanmore Bay School’s gala is more than a fundraising event - it is now one of the highlights of the Hibiscus Coast community calendar.

Where else can thousands of children and adults enjoy free entertainment, delicious food, pick up a whole pile of bargains and celebrate the start of summer – all together, at one place, on one day! Plus, buy a $2.00 raffle ticket and be in with the chance to win a stunning Toshiba SatPro C850 Notebook!

Children will love the rides this year including bouncy castles, jeeps, horses and a giant Games Alley. The entertainment line-up is promising too with Cheer Leaders, Belly Dancing, Taekwondo Performances a local band and "Peaches and Pickles".

A crowd favourite, the silent auction, will be running all day with over several thousand dollars’ worth of donated goods including a Bike, Kayak and a Family Day Pass to the Whale and Dolphin Cruise from Explore NZ valued at $400.00. An excellent time to secure some of those much needed Christmas presents.

A bumper crop of food and drink stalls including hamburgers, hot meat rolls, sushi, ice cream sodas, lollies and cakes, to the children’s favourite candyfloss, will keep the crowd’s hunger at bay. There will also be loads of hampers and tempting pantry items.

The gala begins – rain or shine – at 10am.

BUY local - GIVE local

Christmas appeal organised by your local community newspaper, Hibiscus Matters, in partnership with the Hibiscus Coast Community House and the Orewa Baptist Church Christmas food drive. It’s about spending a few dollars this Christmas to help others in the community who are going through hard times.

Here’s how it works: While you’re doing your Christmas shopping, purchase a voucher of any denomination over $10 and drop it in to a collection box (located at Manly Care Chemist, Manly Village, Eddie Law, Top of the Plaza, Whangaparaoa; Beds R Us, Silverdale Centre; Dad’s Pies, Silverdale Industrial or Hibiscus Matters’ office, Tamariki Plaza, Orewa) or post to Hibiscus Matters, Unit G, 18 Tamariki Plaza, Cammish Lane, Orewa, 0931.

Vouchers will be distributed to families in need with the Community House’s Christmas food parcels, and by the Orewa Baptist Church as part of its Christmas food drive. Vouchers can be for anything that will bring a little sunshine to a struggling family on Christmas Day – fuel, groceries, toys, electrical goods, toiletries, clothes and so on. Vouchers must be dropped into the boxes or received in our office prior to December 10. Together, we can make a difference

Homestay Thank you!

Thank you so much to all the families that put up their hands to host two Japanese girls that will spend time at our school at the end of August. I was overwhelmed with your readiness to help out and invite a young girl to be part of your families for two weeks.

Very quickly I found myself in the situation of having to turn down people, because we found two homestay families. If that has happened to you, I hope you are not disappointed and I would love to match you up with an international student in the future, if you are still interested. In any case I am keeping you in mind in case I need further backup.

You Gulf Harbour people are simply lovely!

Thank you again from Dagmar Goodall and Gulf Harbour School!

Urgent Help Needed Please

We are desperately looking for two families that can host a Japanese girl, aged 14 or 15, from August 20th to September 4th.
If you are interested and have a room for the student in your house, children living with you - at least one of them has to be a girl - please, contact d.goodall@ghs.school.nz as soon as possible.
The homestay fee is $220.00 per week - 7 nights.
You don't have to have children at Gulf Harbour School, but you should be able to drop off and pick up the student in the morning and the afternoon.
